UFC Fight Night 33 took place Friday night in Brisbane, Australia, and the card turned out to be an overall surprise that provided a number of upsets that not many people saw coming. Oh, and one of the best heavyweight fights in UFC history. Overall from a betting perspective, four favorites and six underdogs won, while one fight pushed. Here’s a betting recap of UFC Fight Night 33 based on the closing odds at Several Bookmakers: UFC Fight Night 33 Bets That Pushed In the main event of the evening, Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva battled back-and-forth for five bloody rounds in what can only be described as one of the craziest fights in UFC history. Both men absolutely punished each other for 25 minutes, and at the end of five rounds the judges ruled the fight a majority draw. I also scored the fight a draw, giving Bigfoot rounds one, two, and four, and Hunt three and a 10-8 five. It was such a good fight, and hopefully a rematch is next. Bigfoot pushed as a -150 betting favorite (bet $150 to win $100), while Hunt pushed as a +140 underdog (bet $100 to win $140). What a fight. UFC Fight Night 33 Betting Favorites That Won In a light heavyweight bout, Ryan Bader defeated Anthony Perosh via three-round mauling. I’m shocked that Bader couldn’t get the finish, but he still scored as a -525 fav. Perosh lost as a +450 dog and it’s possible his career could be over because he took a beating. In a bantamweight bout, Takeya Mizugaki defeated Nam Phan via three-round unanimous decision in an absolute barnburner. Mizugaki displayed beautiful boxing and mixed in some nice takedowns to win as a -325 favorite, while Phan lost as a +295 dog. In a flyweight bout, Justin Scoggins defeated Richie Vaculik via first-round TKO (punches). The 21-year-old Scoggins showed all the makings of a future champion and cashed as a -340 favorite, while Vaculik lost as a +310 dog. In a welterweight bout, Alex Garcia defeated Ben Wall via first-round KO (punches). Garcia is a knockout artist and won as a -660 fav, while Wall was dead money at +540. UFC Fight Night 33 Betting Underdogs That Won In a light heavyweight bout, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua turned back the clock and knocked out James Te Huna in the first round with a brutal left hook. Rua looked like his old PRIDE self and scored the upset win as a +125 dog, while Te Huna was a -135 favorite. In a heavyweight bout, Soa Palelei defeated Pat Barry via first-round KO (punches). Palelei quickly gained mount and swarmed on Barry for a ground-and-pound KO to win as a +160 dog, while Barry lost as a -170 fav. In a middleweight bout, Clint Hester defeated Dylan Andrews via second-round TKO after Andrews hurt his shoulder throwing a punch. The fight was tied up heading into the third but Andrews couldn’t continue and lost as a -140 fav, while Hester won as a +120 dog. In a women’s bantamweight bout, Bethe Correia defeated Julie Kedzie via split decision. Correia looked petty solid in her UFC debut and scored at +155, while Kedzie lost at -165. In a middleweight bout, Caio Magalhaes defeated Nick Ring via controversial unanimous decision. I thought Ring won the first two rounds, but the judges gave it to Magalhaes. Magalhaes was a +170 dog, while Ring was a -185 fav. In a middleweight matchup, Krzysztof Jotko defeated Bruno Santos via unanimous decision. Jotko showed a decent overall game and deserved the win but needs to improve for his next match. Jotko scored at +215, while Santos failed at -235.
