A number of new UFC bouts were announced yesterday, and for today’s MMA Odds and Ends, I’ll give my early take on all of them. Eddie Wineland vs. Yves Jabouin, UFC on FOX 10 In one of two new UFC on FOX 10 bouts announced, bantamweights Eddie Wineland and Yves Jabouin will clash in what should be an exciting fight. Based on how these two match up, you gotta think that Wineland opens up a decent-sized favorite here, perhaps around -250 or so. That being said, Wineland doesn’t usually get too much respect from the betting public, but considering his power and Jabouin’s declining chin, Wineland really should win this fight by KO. Walt Harris vs. Nikita Krylov, UFC on FOX 10 And in the other new UFC on FOX 10 fight, Walt Harris makes a quick return to the Octagon to take on Nikita Krylov in what is surely a “loser leaves town” match after both fighters looked very poor in their UFC debuts. Krylov is seen as many as the worst heavyweight in the UFC and so Harris automatically has to be the favorite here. I’m expecting Harris about 2-to-1 for this fight, although that could climb even higher if people bet against Krylov just on principle alone, which I believe may be the case. Leandro Issa vs. Russell Doane, UFC Fight Night 34 In a bantamweight bout between UFC newcomers, Russell Doane will take on Leandro Issa at UFC Fight Night 34, according to MMAjunkie.com. Although both of these fighters aren’t well known, based on what I’ve see so far both have some talent and obviously UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby liked them enough to sign them, so they must be pretty decent. As far as this particular matchup goes, I honestly need to do more research into it, but I would guess Issa opens as a favorite here due to the public hype. Dustin Ortiz vs. John Moraga, UFC Fight Night 35 And in a flyweight bout at UFC Fight Night 35, former title challenger John Moraga returns to the cage against Dustin Ortiz, who is fresh off a win over Jose Maria at UFC Fight Night 32. This is a really interesting matchup that I could honestly see going either way, but I do believe Moraga should be favored ever so slightly. That being said, Moraga generally doesn’t get much respect from the bettors, so we’ll see if the betting public looks to fade him after his poor performance against Demetrious Johnson at UFC on FOX 7. Tom Watson vs. Nick Catone, UFC 169 And finally, in a middleweight bout booked for UFC 169, Tom Watson takes on Nick Catone, who is moving back to 185 after a failed stint at 170. This fight seems pretty clear-cut to me: Watson will try to keep it standing, while Catone will look for the takedowns, and the outcome will depend on who is able to implement their gameplan. My initial thoughts are that it will be Watson, who I’m guessing will open around -180 or so here.
