However, if you really take a look at this card, there are some decently fun matchups, including on the preliminary card. In a featherweight bout, Sam Sicilia takes on Godofredo Pepey in what should be a fight that doesn’t go the distance. Both of these guys are finishers, and while I do favor Sicilia due to his superior striking and power, Pepey is unorthodox and he has some submissions, too. So if Pepey can get this fight to the floor, he could pull off the upset. However, I think it’s more likely that the fight stays standing and he gets KOed, and that’s why you see Sicilia as a -190 favorite. In a lightweight bout, Thiago Tavares returns from a nine-month PED suspension to take on Justin Salas. I was looking to fade both of these fighters, but since the UFC matched them up against one another it’s obviously a little more difficult to do that now. While I do favor Tavares due to the fight being in his native Brazil, Salas has a bit of talent and the dog could very well bite in this fight if Tavares has an off night. And finally, in a flyweight bout, Jose Maria Tome takes on Dustin Ortiz. This is a great matchup and the prelim I am most looking forward to. Tome impressed a bit in his UFC debut against John Lineker, where he took the fight on short notice and rocked his opponent, but Ortiz is a talented youngster training at Roufusport and shouldn’t be underestimated here. It’s a close fight, but I do lean towards Tome a bit since the fight is in Brazil, and that’s why I see why he’s the slight favorite in the opening lines.
