Bellator 106 was billed as the biggest event in the promotion’s history and it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic card with a number of upset victories and surprising endings to fights. Overall, six betting favorites hit while four big underdogs scored in an evening of violence that surprised many bettors. Here’s a betting recap for Bellator 106 based on the closing results at Several Bookmakers: Bellator 106 Underdogs That Won In the main event of the evening, Eddie Alvarez defeated Michael Chandler via split decision (47-48, 48-47, 48-47) to become the new Bellator lightweight champion. It was a very close fight and although I scored it for Chandler 48-47, I’m not shocked the judges went the other way. The loss was the first of Chandler’s career but he can at least feel safe in knowing he gets an automatic trilogy match against Alvarez. Alvarez closed as a +260 dog (bet $100 to win $260), while Chandler closed at -290 (bet $290 to win $100) In the co-main event of the evening, Emanuel Newton won the interim Bellator light heavyweight championship with a decision win over King Mo Lawal. Newton outstruck Lawal over the course of the five rounds to take home the judges’ cards and win the title. Newton cashed out as a +250 dog, while Lawal lost at -275. In a featherweight fight for the Bellator world championship, Daniel Straus took home a unanimous decision over Pat Curran to become the new champ. Straus looked fantastic throughout the course of five rounds to easily take the decision and cash out as a huge +380 dog, while Curran lost as a -430 fav. In a featherweight fight that kicked off the main card, Mike Richman knocked out Akop Stepanyan in the first round with punches after getting rocked himself. It was a great comeback by Richman, who hit as a +145 dog, while Stepanyan dropped to 1-4 in Bellator as a -155 fav. Bellator 106 Favorites That Won In the Fight Master finale, Joe Riggs defeated Mike Bronzoulis via unanimous decision to win the show.
