MMA Oddsbreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with Bellator 106 lightweight champion Michael Chandler as he prepares for his title fight this weekend (Nov. 2, 2013) against Eddie Alvarez at The Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, California.
The talented Alliance MMA fighter dethroned Eddie Alvarez when they first fought two years ago. Since then, Alvarez has had to deal with a contract dispute, but Chandler feels he ended up making the best decision for his family:
“Fighters spend too much time talking about who they want to fight or talking their way into fights or selling themselves or selling fights. I’m still young in this sport to where I need to be focusing all my time and all my emotions and all my efforts right here in the gym. I didn’t know what was going to happen with [Eddie Alvarez’s] contract stuff, whether he was going to stay or go or what he’s going to do. He’s a family man. He’s got three kids to take care of. He’s got a wife. He was going to make the decision that was best for his family. It just so happens he signed with Bellator and we get to do it again.”
