UFC 165 turned out to be one of the very best events of the year as it featured a number of sick knockouts, sweet submissions and a main event that was one of the greatest fights in UFC history. Here’s five crazy UFC 165 prop bets that cashed, with the closing lines courtesy of Several Bookmakers: Renan Barao wins in round two (+475)/Barao wins by T/KO (+440)/Barao wins “Knockout of the Night” (+1000) Renan Barao had an incredible knockout win over Eddie Wineland in the co-main event of the evening, a victory that elevates him into the conversation of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world. Barao to win by knockout cashed at +440, a crazy number on a huge favorite when you think about it. As well, Barao to win the KOTN award cashed out at a giant +1000 and Barao wins in the second also hit at a nice +475. Brendan Schaub wins in round one (+700)/Schaub wins by submission (+700) Brendan Schaub submitted Matt Mitrione with a first-round D’arce choke in one hell of a performance on the UFC 165 main card. It was a tremendous win for Schaub, and it surprised the hell out of me that he was able to submit Mitrione so quickly after the first takedown of the fight. Either way, if you were banking on Schaub to win by sub, congrats, because +700 is a nice hit. And congrats if you bet on Schaub to win in round one, because that was +700, too. Stephen Thompson wins in round two (+425) Stephen Thompson knocked out Chris Clements in the second round with a very pretty series of strikes and it’s a win that moves “Wonderboy” to 3-1 in the UFC and into the top 25 or so of the division. If you were counting on Clements being tough enough to survive into the second round, congrats, because Thompson by round-two T/KO at +425 was a good hit. John Makdessi wins by T/KO (+380) Canadian John Makdessi flattened Brazilian Renne Forte with a first-round KO for his third-straight victory in the UFC Octagon and fifth overall as a UFC fighter. The prop bet on Makdessi to win by T/KO cashed out at +380, so if you predicted for “The Bull” to win by knockout, congrats, because that was a very nice line. Mitch Gagnon wins in round one (+625)/Gagnon wins by submission (+800)/Gagnon wins “Submission of the Night” (+2200) Mitch Gangon of Ontario finished Dustin Kimura with a first-round guillotine choke, a huge win over a previously-undefeated fighter that rockets him way up the bantamweight ranks. Gagnon is a one-round fighter and the prop on him winning in round one was +625, a great hit. As well, Gagnon has won all ten of his career fights have come by submission and yet Gagnon wins by submission cashed at +800. In looking back at the event, I can’t believe I overlooked Gagnon for a bet. Oh, and by the way, Gagnon wins the SOTN award cashed HUGE at a whopping +2200, so big congrats if you bet that.
