Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 312 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 312 is a rematch between UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis and Sean Strickland. These two fought last year at UFC 297 and Du Plessis won the belt with a close split decision win. Since their first fight, Du Plessis has defended his belt one time against Israel Adesanya by submission. As for Strickland, he picked up a decision win over Paulo Costa last year to earn a rematch with Du Plessis. Like their first fight, it is fair to expect another close bout in this rematch, but the champion Du Plessis gets a small handicap.
- In the co-main event, UFC women’s strawweight champion Weili Zhang fights Tatiana Suarez. Zhang is coming off four straight wins including a dominant victory over Yan Xiaonan in her last outing. As for Suarez, she is a perfect 7-0 since she first joined the UFC back in 2016. For many years, fans and the media have said that Suarez could win the title, and now she will have the chance to become a champion. It won’t be an easy fight, but it’s one that she can win. Still, given Zhang is the reigning and defending champion, the books opened her as the favorite.
