Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 101 Opening Odds:
- The main event is a rematch between women’s strawweights Mackenzie Dern and Amanda Ribas. Dern saw her two-fight losing skid get snapped with a decision win over Loopy Godinez in her last fight, while Ribas is coming off a competitive loss to Rose Namajunas. These two fighters first met in 2019, with Ribas pulling off the upset with a decision win. They now meet again six years later. This should be a close fight in the rematch, and the oddsmakers opened up Ribas as the favorite due to her winning the first fight, but don’t discount Dern in this one.
- The co-main event sees Santiago Ponzinibbio and Carlston Harris battle in a fight between veteran welterweights. Ponzinibbio is coming off a close decision loss to Muslim Salikhov and overall he has lost four of his last five fights. As for Harris, he is coming off a brutal knockout loss to Khaos Williams in his last fight. This should be a competitive fight, but given Ponzinibbio’s experience in the UFC and the fact he was so competitive against Salikhov, it’s a bit surprising to see Harris open up as the favorite in this one.
