Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 100 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 100 is a five-round welterweight bout between Carlos Prates and Neil Magny. This is a huge opportunity for Prates, who has emerged as a serious contender at 170 lbs this year. Since making his UFC debut earlier this year, Prates is 3-0 with knockout wins over Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, and Li Jingliang. He has looked amazing inside the Octagon and looks like someone who could be fighting for the belt in a few years if he keeps winning fights. He now takes on Magny, who has the most fights in the welterweight division but who is coming to the end of his career, having lost a brutal knockout defeat to Michael Morales in his last fight. Magny is a gatekeeper, and Prates needs to pass this test.
- Also on the card is a bantamweight bout between Miles Johns and Cody Garbrandt. Johns has won his last two fights and is unbeaten in his last four bouts overall. As for Garbrandt, he is coming off a loss to Deiveson Figueiredo which snapped a two-fight winning streak. While Garbrandt is a big name, Johns should win this fight at this point in his career.
