Here are my initial thoughts on the Opening Odds For Dana White’s Contender Series 71:
- The main event of DWCS 71 is a light heavyweight bout between Navajo Stirling and Phillip Latu. Stirling is a City Kickboxing fighter who has gone undefeated since debuting in MMA in 2022, having won his last three fights by knockout. The 26-year-old fighter comes from a kickboxing background and so far his striking has translated well to the UFC. As for Latu, he is 33 and he trains at Elevation Fight Team. He also comes from a kickboxing background and he made his pro debut in 2021, having won six fights by knockout to go along with one submission loss. This should be a very fun fight between two strikers, but with Stirling being the undefeated prospect, it’s not too surprising to see him favored here in the betting odds.
- Also on the card is a lightweight bout between Kody Steele and Quemuel Ottoni. Steele is undefeated in MMA with a perfect 6-0 record with four wins coming by stoppage. He comes from Fury FC, which is one of the best regional MMA promotions in the United States right now. As for Ottoni, he has been a pro for the last decade and he holds a notable win over UFC superstar Alex Pereira from 2015. He has won his last five fights in a row, and it would be foolish to write him off in this fight despite the fact he enters this bout as a big underdog.
