Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 306 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 306 features UFC bantamweight champion Sean O’Malley taking on Merab Dvalishvili. O’Malley is 10-1, 1 NC in the UFC and he is coming off three straight wins. He has proven he is the best bantamweight in the UFC with wins over the likes of Petr Yan to earn a title shot and Aljamain Sterling to take the belt, before beating Marlon Vera to defend his title. Now, he takes on arguably his toughest challenge yet in Dvalishvili, who has won 10 straight fights after losing his first two UFC bouts. Stylistically, this is a difficult matchup for O’Malley since Dvalishvili is one of the best wrestlers in the UFC and has an epic gas tank. But O’Malley has the best striking in the weight class, so you would be foolish to count him out here.
- In the co-main event, we have the trilogy match between UFC women’s flyweight champion Alexa Grasso and former champ Valentina Shevchenko. These two fought twice last year, with Grasso pulling off a huge upset with a submission win over Shevchenko to win the title before fighting to a draw in the rematch. This is certainly a close fight on paper which is why the odds are so close, but with Grasso being the champ, she should be a slight favorite here.
