Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 305 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC 305 sees UFC middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis taking on Israel Adesanya. Du Plessis has gone 7-0 in the UFC so far and he defeated Sean Strickland in his last fight to become the new UFC middleweight champ. As for Adesanya, he has not fought since last year when he lost to Strickland in what was a massive upset at the time. Despite not being the champion anymore, Adesanya is the favorite in this fight, which speaks volumes to what the perception of the former champ still is. Plus, the matchup against Du Plessis could be a good one stylistically for Adesanya, hence his status as the betting favorite.
- The co-main event of UFC 305 features Steve Erceg taking on Kai Kara-France. Erceg is coming off a close decision loss to UFC flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja where his stock arguably went up despite losing. As for Kara-France, he is coming off a controversial split decision loss to Amir Albazi last year that many people thought he won. This should be an excellent fight between two of the top flyweight title contenders in the UFC. But due to recent activity and a strong performance against the champ, it makes sense that Erceg is the favorite.
