Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Sao Paulo Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Sao Paulo is a five-round heavyweight bout between Derrick Lewis and Jailton Almeida. It should first be noted that Lewis took this fight on short notice, filling in for the injured Curtis Blaydes. Despite coming off one of his best UFC wins ever, a brutal flying knee TKO victory over Marcos Rogerio de Lima, Lewis is a massive underdog in this fight. Given how dominant Almeida has been in the UFC so far, it’s certainly understandable why Almeida is such a big favorite in this fight, especially since it’s taking place in Brazil. That being said, while Almeida likely finishes this fight on the ground, Lewis still has a puncher’s chance.
- Also on the card is a welterweight bout between Gabriel Bonfim and Nicolas Dalby. Bonfim is one of the best welterweight prospects in the UFC right now and he looks like someone who is going to be in the top 15 sooner rather than later. As for Dalby, he’s a tough vet who has never been submitted in his MMA career. With that said, Bonfin may be the first man to sub him.
