Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC Vegas 79 Opening Odds:
- The main event of UFC Vegas 79 is a five-round lightweight bout between Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot. Fiziev last fought against Justin Gaethje earlier this year, losing a very close decision, a loss which snapped a six-fight win streak for Fiziev. As for Gamrot, he won a split decision to Jalin Turner earlier this year and he is 5-1 overall in his last six fights. Both of these lightweights are among the very best in the world at what they do. Fiziev is a top striker in the division, while Gamrot is a top grappler. It should be an amazing fight to watch regardless of who comes out victorious. The oddsmakers lean toward Fiziev in this one, with him opening up as a decent-sized favorite in what should be an excellent fight.
- Also on the card, we have Bryce Mitchell fighting Dan Ige at featherweight. Mitchell suffered his first career loss as a pro in his last fight when he was submitted by Ilia Topuria. As for Ige, he is coming off of a decision win over Nate Landwehr in his last outing. This should be a tremendous co-main event, and the oddsmakers opened up Mitchell as the favorite for it.
