Here are my quick thoughts on the PFL 2023: Week 3:
- There are a number of great lightweight bouts on this card, including the PFL debut of Shane Burgos as he takes on last season’s 155lbs tournament winner, Olivier Aubin-Mercier. Burgos signed a big-money free-agent contract with the PFL after leaving the UFC after wins over Charles Jourdain and Billy Quarantillo. As for OAM, he ran the gauntlet in last season’s lightweight tournament and he is the top dog in his weight class right now for PFL. As such, OAM opened up as the betting favorite for this fight, but don’t count out Burgos from winning.
- Another fun fight on the card sees Carlos Leal take on David Zawada in a welterweight tournament bout. Leal has not lived up to expectations after his upset win over Ray Cooper III, but he is still a very dangerous fighter. As for Zawada, he picked up a stoppage win after he was cut by the UFC. He has a ton of experience fighting at the highest level of the sport, and seeing Zawada here as an underdog is certainly interesting. Although Leal is a solid fighter, Zawada could be worth a long, hard look as an underdog in this fight.
