Here are my quick thoughts on the UFC 276 Opening Odds:
- In the main event of UFC 276, UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya defends his belt once again, this time against Jared Cannonier. Adesanya is coming off of a competitive decision win over Robert Whittaker and overall he is unbeaten at 185lbs in the UFC with an 11-0 record in the weight class. His only UFC defeat came at 205lbs against Jan Blachowicz when he was smothered on the ground against a bigger man. As for Cannonier, he is 5-1 overall in the UFC and coming off of a big knockout win over Derek Brunson. Cannonier has definitely found his weight class in the middleweight division, but it’s hard to say if he’ll bring anything to the table that Adesanya hasn’t seen before. Not surprisingly, Adesanya has opened up as the betting favorite here, something he’s been through most of his UFC career.
- As for the co-main event, UFC featherweight Alexander Volkanovski fights Max Holloway for the third time. Volkanovski is already 2-0 against Holloway, but many people thought he lost the rematch in 2020. Although Holloway is certainly one of the best featherweights in the sport and has been for the last decade, Volkanovski seems like a man on a mission lately. The champ opened as the favorite, but the odds are still relatively close for this trilogy matchup.
