One of AXS TV Fights’ staple organizations, Legacy Fighting Championship returns on Friday with another card featuring some recognizable names and local flavor from the Texas MMA scene. The main event will be a light heavyweight fight between two former UFC competitors in Paul Buentello and James McSweeney. Yes, you read that right. The Headhunter will be dropping to 205, where he hopes the consequences will be even more severe for his opponents than they were at heavyweight. Additionally, welterweights Eric Davila and Artenas Young will square off in an all-Texas battle. Davila returns to action for the first time since February 2012 and looks to snap a two-fight losing streak, while Young has been out for nearly a year himself. With Davila preferring to grapple and Young looking to strike, one of these two men should be able to assert their dominance in this one. Prospect George Pacurariu and former UFC bantamweight Joseph Sandoval also find themselves on the televised portion of this card. However, my first instinct is that this is a well-matched card and there are some live dogs here. In the main event, James McSweeney is worth a bit of a longer look, as Paul Buentello is an aging fighter and McSweeney is a more talented fighter than his record indicates. If it turns into a war Buentello is certainly the tougher fighter, but skill for skill this is a competitive fight. And that’s before you take into account Buentello cutting to 205. The other interesting dog to me is Jonathan Lopez. Joseph Sandoval is a UFC veteran, but really had no business fighting in the UFC. After starting his career 6-0, he’s lost his last four fights, all by stoppage, and all in the first round. Lopez is young, improving, and could be able to take advantage of Sandoval’s grappling.
