Heavyweight bout: Dave Huckaba (+200) vs Ray Sefo (-280) Fight Breakdown: In the co-main event for the World Series of Fighting 4 on August 10th is a heavyweight bout between the President of the promotion Ray Sefo and California’s own Dave “Bad Man” Huckaba. The underdog for this contest is Dave Huckaba +200 ($100 to win $200) with the favorite being Ray Sefo -280 ($280 to win $100) at Several Bookmakerss. Dave Huckaba (20-5 MMA, 0-0 WSOF) makes his World Series of Fighting debut in his home-state, coming off a dominant three fight win steak. Huckaba has a real passion for knocking people out, and the proof is in the pudding, as 16 of his 20 victories have come by way of TKO/KO. He is a heavy hitter who likes to throw power shots. He doesn’t have good footwork and isn’t very technical but he does put some decent combinations together. Dave Huckaba has made a career for himself fighting lower tier heavyweights on the regional circuit, knocking out cans and losing to half-decent fighters. Striking is his bread and butter and he prefers to stand and trade, but Huckaba is also very confident in his ground game. I think it would be wise of him to abandon the striking and focus on making this a grappling match. Ray Sefo (2-1 MMA, 0-0 WSOF) makes his fighting debut in the promotion of which he is President. Sefo is a professional kickboxer from New Zealand and holds nine championship titles. He trains mixed martial arts at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas and his personal gym, the Ray Sefo Fight Academy in New Zealand. Sefo is a brilliant and vicious striker. Not many heavyweights in mixed martial arts could keep up with him on the feet. Like many kickboxers, wrestling is Ray Sefo’s weakness. A good wrestler with a solid chin will be able to take shots, get takedowns, beat him up, and possibly submit him. Sefo is going to need to implement his takedown defense in this fight, if he’s picked any up since he last stepped in a cage over two years ago. He needs to keep this fight on the feet, and in doing so, he will likely score a highlight reel knockout. Fight Prediction: I think Huckaba will come out striking, looking to knock Sefo out. As soon as he feels outmatched on the feet, he will take the fight to the ground and beat Sefo up, winning the first round. The second round will start and before Huckaba can go for another takedown, Sefo will put him away with a shin to the head. Gabe’s Pick: Ray Sefo by KO (head-kick, 0:34, round 2) Gabe’s Recommended Play: Ray Sefo -280 — I think the line is accurate so I don’t see much value in it, but I do recommend a small bet. Possibly in a parlay with Tyrone Spong -1500, which will knock the juice from -280 all the way down to -224.
