With UFC Fight Night 117 and Bellator 183 taking place this past weekend, it’s time to update the MMA rankings once more. MMAOddsBreaker’s Brian Hemminger (@BrianHemminger) has taken over the reigns of the rankings, which are updated after nearly every UFC event.
As always, we only show changes in the rankings with this update. To access the full MMAOddsBreaker rankings, click here. Disagree? Feel free to give us your take on our rankings either in the comment section here or on Twitter!
Flyweight
1. Demetrious Johnson
2. Henry Cejudo
3. Joseph Benavidez
4. Kyoji Horiguchi
5. Ray Borg
6. Sergio Pettis
7. Jussier Formiga (+1)
8. Ben Nguyen (-1)
9. Wilson Reis
10. Tim Elliott
11. Ulka Sasaki
12. Justin Scoggins
13. Brandon Moreno
14. Ali Bagautinov
15. Dustin Ortiz
Jussier Formiga looked great against Ulka Sasaki, handling the lanky Japanese fighter both on the feet and on the ground, eventually choking him out in the second round. Sasaki is still talented, as evidenced by his submission victory over Justin Scoggins, so I won’t punish him in the rankings, but Formiga deserved to move up at least a bit. I look forward to seeing what Formiga does next, considering he’s oneof the only fighters ranked in the top 10 who hasn’t faced the champ Demetrious Johnson yet.
Women’s Strawweight
1. Joanna Jedrzejczyk
2. Jessica Andrade (+1)
3. Claudia Gadelha (-1)
4. Karolina Kowalkiewicz
5. Rose Namajunas
6. Tecia Torres
7. Carla Esparza
8. Cynthia Calvillo
9. Michelle Waterson
10. Alexa Grasso
11. Cortney Casey
12. Randa Markos
13. Juliana Lima
14. Joanne Calderwood
15. Maryna Moroz
Plain and simple, Jessica Andrade takes Claudia Gadelha’s place as the number two-ranked woman at 115 pounds. Andrade dominated Gadelha in the second and third rounds of their co-main event for UFC Fight Night 117, taking advantage of Gadelha’s conditioning issues and showcasing impressive wrestling and strength. I wish this version of Andrade had showed up in her title fight against Jedrzejczyk, but that may just be a testament to the champion’s incredible technique and ability to control distance.
