UFC President Dana White announced Wednesday night that Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre will not happen as previously scheduled and instead top middleweight contender Yoel Romero will face off with “The Count” later this year. This comes after St-Pierre released a video saying he would not be able to fight until October. Here is what White had to say to FOX Sports Australia’s UFC Fight Week:
“I made this ‘GSP’ fight – we did a press conference. The thing was supposed to happen in July. Michael Bisping is going to have to defend his title now. We’re not waiting for ‘GSP.’ Georges St-Pierre was coming back. Bisping-St Pierre – they both wanted that fight. We asked Yoel to step aside. He did. It doesn’t look like that fight is gonna happen now. “(Romero) doesn’t need to voice his opinion on why he needs a title shot. He definitely deserves a title shot. He’s next in line – he’s the No.1 ranked guy in the world. Georges St-Pierre is saying he will not be ready to compete now until November. Who knows if that’s even the case? It could be next year. … So we’re not waiting for Georges St-Pierre anymore. We’re moving on with the division, and Yoel Romero will get the next shot.”

Henry Cejudo off UFC 211 fight with Sergio Pettis due to injury
MMAFighting was the first to report that Henry Cejudo has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Sergio Pettis this Saturday at UFC 211 with a hand injury. UFC officially adds a women’s flyweight division, TUF 26 will determine first champion The UFC officially announced Wednesday on their website the addition of the women’s flyweight division and mentioned that the upcoming season of The Ultimate Fighter will crown its first women’s 125-pound champion. This comes after the Las Vegas-based promotion denied this claim a week ago after a press release was sent out prematurely.
This is the second new weight class for the UFC this year, as Germaine de Randamie became the new 145-pound women’s champion after defeating Holly Holm at UFC 209. TUF 26 will begin filming in July and is open to women with winning records between the ages of 21-34 who have at least three professional fights. In addition, UFC fighters are also allowed to try out for the reality series. This season will air on on FOX Sports 1 later this year.
