Newsday’s Mark La Monica broke the news on Tuesday that top bantamweights Jimmie Rivera and Thomas Almeida are set to clash at UFC on FOX 25 in Long Island on July 22nd.
Rivera (20-1) hasn’t fought since a September 2016 unanimous-decision win over Urijah Faber at UFC 203. “El Terror” was slated to fight Bryan Caraway in January at UFC Fight Night 103, but an injury to Caraway scrapped those plans. The 27-year-old is currently riding a 19-fight win streak and hasn’t lost since 2008.
Almeida (21-1) is coming off a second-round TKO victory against Albert Morales at UFC Fight Night 100. The 25-year-old’s lone loss in his 22-fight pro MMA career came last year to current bantamweight champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC Fight Night 88.
