The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was in Buffalo, NY for the second time in promotional history and the first time in nearly 22 years with UFC 210: Cormier vs. Johnson II. It was an entertaining night of scraps, and with the action now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which UFC 210 competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…
ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK
Mike De La Torre
De La Torre suffered a first-round TKO at the hands and elbows of Myles Jury this past weekend and is now on a two-fight deficit inside the Octagon with only one win in four fights. After picking up only two victories in seven Octagon appearances overall and coming off back-to-back first-round finishes, I think there is a good chance that the UFC parts ways with the MMA Lab product. I won’t be shocked to see him get another crack, but I believe it is more than likely we have seen the last of this “El Cucuy” inside the Octagon. There isn’t room for two El Cucuy’s in this promotion, so my money says Tony Ferguson will soon be the only one.
Jan Blachowicz
Blachowicz lost a majority decision call to Pat Cummins after hurting and nearly finishing his opponent in the opening stanza. The loss puts him on a two-fight losing streak in the UFC and makes him 1-4 in his last five, which makes me think that there’s a good chance he will be receiving his walking papers from the promotion. It would not surprise me to see him get another shot, considering how razor-thin the UFC’s light heavyweight division is. However, I think it is more than likely that we have seen the last of this Pole inside the Octagon. After defeating Ilir Latifi via body-kick knockout in the opening round of their bout in his UFC debut, he has failed to live up to that performance and his full potential.
