The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Mexico City, Mexico with UFC Fight Night 98: Dos Anjos vs. Ferguson. Following the entertaining night of scraps south of the border, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors from Saturday night we may no longer see in action inside the Octagon… ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK Alex Nicholson Nicholson makes this list despite only loss because of the controversy that has been following him recently, from racist Octagon-side remarks to domestic abuse. The UFC now has a reason to release the fighter coming off a loss, should they decide they do not want to be in the Alex Nicholson business. My guess would be that they give him another fight, likely one he will be a heavy underdog heading in, as has been the case in all three of his Octagon outings. Jason Novelli “Pepsi” came up short in a split decision to Marco Polo Reyes and is now 0-2 insidethe Octagon. He was knocked out by David Teymur in his promotional debut. I won’t be surprised to see him get another crack and believe is it 50/50 as to whether the UFC opts to part ways with him or not. Chris Avila Avila is now 0-2 inside the Octagon following last night’s one-sided unanimous decision loss to Enrique Barzola, which came after another one-sided unanimous decision loss to Artem Lobov in his promotional debut. I think Avila has proved to not be a UFC-caliber athlete and following two one sided defeats inisde the Ocaton, I think there is a very good chance the UFC sends him his pink slip and sends him packing from the promotion. The only reason the UFC would keep him around for another fight would solely be as a favor to the Diaz brothers, who Avila trains with.
