Titan FC 34’s Pat Healy talks title defense, training camp and more.

Titan FC lightweight champion Pat Healy makes the first defence of his championship on July 18th at Titan FC 34 against late replacement Marcus Edwards.  Healy (30-20-1) caught up with MMAOddsBreaker on an Episode 113 of The Parting Shot Podcast and discussed a variety of topics. Championship victory over Kurt Kinser at Titan FC 33  “It was a close fight I thought I did enough to win. I thought I won four out of the five rounds, not by a huge margin in every round. Certainly a little bit too close for my comfort, it wasn’t the performance I wanted. But glad I pulled through with the win. I think sometimes I have a hard time getting mentally up for a fight. I just couldn’t get my motor going backstage and my warmup was really sluggish. He had everything to gain in that fight and I kind of had everything to lose. Still I knew it was going to be tough and I don’t want to take anything away from him. I’m trying to get more of a set warmup to get my body going into an autopilot. So I don’t have a flat performance again.”   Training camp for this fight  “I did go down and start my camp training [with Donald Cerrone} I finished it out in Portland where I’m from at Rose City fighting I started training there at the Ranch and I really enjoy training down there. It was a great way to kick off camp.”     Competing on UFC Fight Pass and possibly going back to the UFC “It certainly motivating, more eyes on it. Any time you can use the UFC, that’s a smart move by Titan. The UFC is still by far the most popular organization out there. I feel like if I have an impressive performance [I will]. I don’t think another split decision like I have in my last two fights will do it. But if I have a convincing win, probably. A finish that would do it.”   NSAC strict ruling on punishment for marijuana  “I haven’t been following it that closely. I mean we should be punished the night of the fight or the weight cut. I think diuretics are a part of that, I don’t think marijuana. Unless you’re actually going into the ring high and I don’t think that happens often, if ever. I guess it’s just them trying to clean up the sport. We’ve had so many issues with PED and steroids. Everytime you turn on the news you seem to hear a new guy testing positive. I guess it’s just a reaction to that, I think obviously the testing for steroids and PED’s is really good. I’m glad they’re taking a step in the right direction there.”   Competing for Titan FC  “Titan’s been great, I have no complaints. They’ve treated me really good. I’ve fought the first two cards since I’ve been signed with them. That’s about as much as I can ask for, that they keep me active. If I keep throwing me on every fight card then I’ll be pretty active. They really go out of their way to promote you which is great. It’s something I’ve never really experienced. I certainly appreciate all their hard work there.”   You can follow Pat on Twitter @BamBamHealy and you can listen to the full audio version of this interview on Episode 113 of The Parting Shot Podcast (29 minutes in) below.
