Recovering UFC Bantamweight Dominick Cruz: ‘I still wake up every morning like a champion’

MMAOddsBreaker’s Frank Trigg speaks with former UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz as he continues to rehabilitate his knee following his third major injury which required surgery.

The talented fighter is not giving up by any stretch of the imagination, but he’s learned some harsh lessons from his previous stints on the mend:

“Let’s not get it twisted, I still wake up every morning like a champion. I’m still not done fighting by any means. I wake up and I have a bunch of things I roll over and look at on my wall that keep me reminded and grounded on my purpose for every day to evolve. That’s the goal. What I want here is to evolve. Sitting around and doing nothing, I look at Floyd Mayweather for example. He’s the best boxer of our era, but if you look at any other skill-set he has, it’s just boxing. Muhammed Ali had things outside boxing which made him a great person, which helped him evolve as a man and that’s what I think helps make champions. They don’t just have one facet. You’ve got to evolve into a million different things and that’s how you stay around when you’re done. It’s who you touch when you’re still here after you’re gone. Who can you affect? I need to learn to love myself and everything around me will turn into success.”
