It’s been a busy week of UFC fight announcements. Here are my thoughts on the most latest fight bookings in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Hacran Dias vs. Chas Skelly, TUF Brazil 4 Finale A featherweight matchup between Hacran Dias and Chas Skelly is the latest addition to the TUF Brazil 4 Finale, which is set for June 27 at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Dias is a very underrated featherweight, but Skelly looks like a bad matchup for him. Skelly has the wrestling to contend with Dias in the grappling exchanges, and on the feet Skelly has really evolved his game as he showed in hi last fight, a TKO win over Jim Alers. Dias will looks to grind like he always does, but Skelly can equal him in that department and I think he can keep a better pace over the course of three rounds. This is a fight that likely hits the scorecards, and in Brazil that’s always scary, but I do favor Skelly here. I expect the odds to be close but I favor the American to get the job done, and if he’s available at plus money I’ll most likely be taking a shot on him as he’s been nothing but impressive since joining the UFC. Vaughan Lee vs. Patrick Holohan, UFC Fight Night 72 A flyweight fight between Vaughan Lee and Patrick Holohan has been booked for UFC Fight Night 72, which goes down July 18 at SSE Hydro in Glasgow, Scotland. Lee will be making his 125lb debut in this fight and I actually really like the move for him. Lee is a talented fighter who has been marred by inconsistency inside the cage. When he looks good he can appear to be a top contender, but when he looks bad, he looks bad. He was KOed in brutal fashion by Yuri Alcantara a year ago, but with a year off to re-think his career, I think he can come back better than ever at a new weight class. Holohan, on the other hand, has gone 2-1 in the UFC with two dominant wins over Josh Sampo and Shane Howell as well as a surprising defeat to Chris Kelades. Like Lee, he’s been inconsistent inside the Octagon. When he looks good he looks great, but when he looks bad he looks like he doesn’t belong in the UFC. Holohan is one of the bigger flyweights, so it will be interesting to see how he matches up size-wise with the former bantamweight Lee. This is a good scrap. Both guys are going to bring it and it could be a “Fight of the Night” contender when it’s all said and done. If Holohan can get takedowns, he likely beats Lee on the mat and maybe even taps him out. But it Lee can stuff the takedowns and keep it on the feet, he should be able to tool Holohan with his boxing. Still, it’s tough to say what could happen. I expect Holohan to be the favorite, but Lee is definitely going to be a live dog.
