Diving into the FS1 Prelims for UFC Fight Night 68 in New Orleans

joe-proctorThe Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to New Orleans, LA this Saturday night (June 6th, 2015) with UFC Fight Night 68: Henderson vs Boetsch. The 12-fight card will feature a six fight card to be live on FOX Sports 1 at 10pm ET, and preliminary action will precede it on the same channel at 8pm ET, with a pair of bouts streaming live prior to that on UFC Fight Pass at 7pm ET. If interested in wagering on this fight card, all betting lines will be made available at Several Bookmakerss. Getting the action started for the UFC Fight Night 68 preliminary card on FOX Sports 1 will be a lightweight contest between a pair of The Ultimate Fighter veterans in Joe Proctor and Justin Edwards. This scrap could be a sleeper for the evening’s ‘Fight of the Night’ bonus, as these lightweights are full of heart and win or lose, they give it their all every time they step foot inside the Octagon. Now with Proctor coming off a first round guillotine choke submission to Yancy Medeiros and Edwards having dropped two straight, this is a big fight for both of these hungry 155-pounders. Especially since a loss could mean contract termination. Proctor opened as a -210 betting favorite in this contest, with Edwards being the underdog at +160. After what I assume has been slight back and forth actions, lines have tightened up a bit and currently sit at -200/+170. Keeping things in the lightweight division, rising prospects Chris Wade and Christos Giagos will take center stage, looking to continue their climb up the UFC’s 155-pound ladder. Hardcore fight fans have a close eye on this match-up, knowing full well how talented both prospects are. The victor will continue his climb, but for the loser, it will mean a trip to the drawing board. Regardless of the outcome, there is a good chance these lightweights will produce a memorable battle in New Orleans this Saturday night when they step foot inside the Octagon. Wade opened as a -245 favorite at the sportsbooks in this contest, with the return on the underdog Giagos being +175. Action has since come in on the dog and tightened up the betting lines, bringing them to their current -170/+150. Next up on the evening’s televised FOX Sports 1 preliminary card will be a welterweight contest that sees veteran Brian Ebersole take on Dagestani fighter Omari Akhmedov, who is an injury replacement for Ebersole’s original opponent Alan Jouban. Ebersole and Akhmedov both returned to the win column in their most recent outings and they will be looking to make it two in a row this Saturday night. Ebersole was planning a move down to the lightweight division, but injuries got in the way of that and he has opted to stay at 170-pounds. He opened as a +110 betting underdog in this contest, with Akhmedov being a -150 favorite. The lines have since tightened up a bit and sit at a current +115/-135. Headlining the UFC Fight Night 68 preliminary card on FOX Sports 1 will be a heavyweight rematch between Shawn “The Savage” Jordan and Derrick “The Black Beast” Lewis. Jordan took a unanimous decision over Lewis in their initial outing, and this Saturday night in Jordan’s backyard of New Orleans, Lewis will be looking to seek revenge. Both heavyweights are coming off knockout victories in their latest outings and will likely be looking for more of the same. According to the betting odds, there is a very good chance these big boys will end the prelims with a bang. Jordan opened as a very slight -125 betting favorite in this contest, with Lewis being -115. The odds have since tighened up a bit and rest at a current -115/-105.
