MMA Prospect Watch: Antun ‘Killer’ Racic

antun racicNaturally a bantamweight, Croatia’s Antun “Killer” Racic has amassed a 17-5 professional mixed martial arts record competing in the featherweight and lightweight divisions. Making his pro debut back in 2009 at the age of 18, he defeated his first opponent via armbar in the second round of action. Being a submission specialist, Racic continued the trend, going on to earn 13 of his 17 victories by way of tapout. The Croatian was introduced to martial arts at the very young age of five, when he started taking Judo. Ten years later, he received his black belt in the sport and continued evolving as a grappler and mixed martial artist when he joined the Gladiator Fight Team, known to be home to some of the most dangerous fighters in Europe. In 2010, he became the FILA World Junior Grappling champion, and then shifted his focus into mixed martial arts, continuing to improve his all-around game. “Killer” is an excellent wrestler who possesses an incredible double-leg takedown, as well as a very good single-leg. He has excellent top control and remains heavy in the position, doing a great job of defending submissions while pouring on an effective ground and pound attack. The 24 year old has heavy hands, especially for a lighter-weight fighter. He works some nice 1-2 combinations and possesses serious power in both hands, though he has yet to secure a T/KO victory. Even when he is doing well with his hands, he opts to switch things up to his bread and butter; the ground-game. Racic is a fighter who has been flying under the radar and looking good against bigger opponents, even in losing efforts. He belongs in the Octagon, so if he continues to impress, it’s a good bet he’ll find a home in the UFC’s bantamweight division.
