UFC 184 Date: 02/28/15 Arena: Staples Center City: Los Angeles, CA The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is finally set to return to Los Angeles this Saturday night (February 28, 2014) for UFC 184. The event will feature an entirety of 11-bouts, including a five-fight main card that will be live on Pay Per View at 10pm ET. Preliminary action will precede it at 8pm ET on FOX Sports 1, with a pair of scraps coming before that on UFC Fight Pass at 7pm ET. Here are my three-way parlays for UFC 184: Women’s Bantamweight bout: Holly Holm (-900) vs Raquel Pennington (+600) Gabe’s Thoughts: I expect Holm to use her improved wrestling and takedown defense to keep this fight standing, where she will use her superior boxing to outstrike Pennington. It is possible that Pennington may hang in there with her and be a bit competitive, but I think that’s the most she can hope for; to be somewhat competitive. When it’s all said and done, Holm will get her hand raised. I would not be completely surprised if she managed to stop Pennington, but I think it’s a slim chance. “Rocky” is tough, and even if she gets completely dominated by Holm on the feet, I think she will take a beating for the entirety of 15-minutes of action. While it is possible she could mentally break and accept that she is losing the fight, I don’t think she will quit and succumb to a knockout defeat. If put in such a position, I think she is the type of fighter who would start to view as surviving until the final bell a moral victory. I’m a fan of Pennington’s, but this is Holm’s fight to lose and I would be surprised if she did. Gabe’s Call: Holm by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) Bantamweight bout: Norifumi Yamamoto (-330) vs Roman Salazar (+270) Gabe’s Thoughts: To put it simply, I think the Japanese veteran is going to come out the gate firing and quickly put Salazar away. Even considering the very long layoff, he should easily pick up a victory here, as I think this is a match-up tailor-made for him to win, and he will likely do so in highlight-reel fashion. Gabe’s Call: Yamamoto by T/KO (strikes, 0:09 round 1) Heavyweight bout: Derrick Lewis (-500) vs Ruan Potts (+400) Gabe’s Thoughts: It’s tough to imagine any other outcome to this match-up other than Potts waking up to the lights. I think Lewis puts him away, and I think he gets the job done within the first stanza. After being knocked out by Matt Mitrione in his last outing, I believe this is a perfect match-up to get him back into the win column, and by adding another highlight-reel knockout to his resume, he should regain relevancy in the UFC’s heavyweight division. I expect Lewis to get back to his winning ways on Saturday night, while simultaneously sending Potts to the unemployment line, as it would be the South African’s third consecutive defeat inside the Octagon. Gabe’s Call: Lewis by T/KO (punches, 1:39 round 1) Gabe’s Recommended Parlays: Holm (-900) parlayed with Yamamoto (-330) and Lewis (-500) at -136 for 4.95u to win 3.65u and Holm/Pennington Over 2.5 rounds (-180) parlayed with Yamamoto/Salazar Under 1.5 rounds (+140) and Lewis/Potts Under 1.5 rounds (-195) at +464 for 2.25u to win 10.45u
