Bellator 71 Betting Preview

Bellator Fighting ChampionshipsThe Bellator Summer Series invades MTV2 and Spike.com live from Chester, West Virginia on Friday with a trio of fascinating main card fights that will get underway starting at 8 p.m. (ET). However, Richard Hale had to pull out of his fight at the last moment, leaving Beau Tribolt without an opponent, so that bout was cancelled. Headlining the card is the conclusion of the quarterfinals of the Bellator Summer Series Light Heavyweight Tournament. Uber MMA vet Travis Wiuff (66-14) opened as the heavy favorite at -320 (bet $320 to win $100) over Chris Davis (10-3), the +260 underdog (bet $100 to win $260). Wiuff is undefeated at 2-0 in the promotion with unanimous decision wins over the light heavyweight champion Christian M’Pumbu in a non-title fight and Anthony Gomez back in March. Roy Broughton (8-2) and Emanuel Newton (17-6-1) look to make an impression on Bjorn Rebney and the Bellator brass in another light heavyweight quarterfinal matchup. Broughton comes out of the Cesar Gracie camp with a solid resume featuring a variety of strong standup and of course, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Newton is the former Maximum Fighting Championship light heavyweight champion, and he is a crafty vet looking to keep the young dog down. Both fighters have well-developed games and come out of great gyms. Newton comes out of Kings MMA, featuring Mark Munoz and Fabricio Werdum among others, and he opened as the clear favorite at -255 to Broughton’s +205 according to the MMA odds. The third light heavyweight quarterfinal at Bellator 71 features journeyman Zelg Galesic (11-6) making his return to the Bellator cage after losing in the Bellator middleweight tournament semifinals to the eventual winner Alexander Shlemenko. Galesic is coming back after taking home an incredible flying knee win at Super Fight League last month and hopes to build on that momentum. Standing in Zelg’s way is Attila Vegh, a Slovakian assassin who has a 25-4 record with 19 finishes, nine by knockout and 10 by way of submission. Vegh is currently riding a five-fight winning streak and looks to make a splash in the United States. This fight should be a slugfest not to be missed with Vegh the slight favorite at -170 to Galesic’s +140.
