MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier rematch set as UFC 200 headliner

Daniel Cormier vs. Jon Jones set as UFC 200 Headliner This morning on Good Morning America, it was revealed that the rematch between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier will headline UFC 200 in July.  

Jones (16-1) is coming off a win over Ovince Saint Preux this past weekend at UFC 197 . Cormer (17-1)  has won two-straight fights since his loss to Jones in January 2015 with victories over Anthony Johnson and Alexander Gustafsson. UFC 200 takes place on July 9th at T-Mobile arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Here’s an updated look at the card .

Yuta Sasaki replaces Paddy Holohan against Willie Gates at UFC Fight Night 87 With Paddy Holohan revealing the news Monday that was forced to retire due to a rare blood disorder, Yuta Sasaki has stepped up to take on Willie Gates per MMAFigthing. Sasaki (18-3-2) makes the drop to flyweight for this matchup and is coming off two straight losses to Leandro Issa and Taylor Lapilus. The Japanese fighter’s lone UFC win came against Roland Delorme at UFC Fight Night 48 in 2014. Gates (12-6) heads into this matchup off a 96-second win over Darrell Montague and is 1-2 in the UFC. UFC Fight Night 87 takes place May 8th at the Ahoy Rotterdam arena in Netherlands. Here’s an updated look at the card. Matthews (10-1) heads into this fight off back-to-back victories over Akbarh Arreola and most recently Johnny Case. He’s 4-1 in the UFC and was featured on “The Ultimate Fighter Nations: Canada vs. Australia” in 2014.  Ray (19-5) has remained undefeated in the UFC with wins over Marcin Bandel, Mickael Lebout and Leonardo Mafra. The TUF 23 Finale takes place July 8 at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Here’s the updated look at the card. Here’s what he had to say in the statement. “I wanted to take this opportunity to announce that out of respect for my family, my physical integrity and to the sport, I’m retiring. To my fortune, and I’m sure for many of you guys, today we have many compatriots and friends 100% dedicated to the sport and they can continue to compete at the highest level that is demanded. Many thanks to all the people that support me from the beginning and to all those who with their good vibes always drew a smile on my face.”
