MMA Odds and Ends for Wednesday: Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Tecia Torres Added To UFC Calgary

Another huge fight has been added to the stacked UFC Calgary card. That and some other upcoming card updates in today’s MMA odds and ends.

Nik Lentz vs. David Teymur, UFC Fight Night 131

After losing their opponents, the UFC has matched up lightweights Nik Lentz and David Temyur and they will compete at UFC Fight Night 131, which takes place Friday, June 1 at Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, New York. Lentz (28-8-2, 1 NC) is 12-5-1, 1 NC in the UFC and is coming off of a submission win over Will Brooks. Teymur (7-1) is 4-0 in the UFC and is coming off of a decision win over Drakkar Klose. This is a great fight and I dig the matchmaking here. It’s a tough one to call as Lentz is such an effective grinder but Teymur is so good at striking. I’m expecting a terrific fight, though I’d guess Teymur would be a slight favorite here.

Emily Whitmire vs. Jamie Moyle, UFC 226

A women’s flyweight bout between Emily Whitmire and Jamie Moyle will take place at UFC 226, which goes down Saturday, July 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. MMADNA broke the fight. Whitmire (2-2) is 0-1 in the UFC with a submission loss to Gillian Robertson. Moyle (4-2) is 1-1 in the UFC and is coming off of a decision loss to Viviane Pereira. These are two low-level flyweights and I am not expecting a good fight here, but if I had to guess I’d peg Moyle as a slight favorite due to having a slightly bigger name.

Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Tecia Torres, UFC on FOX 30

A women’s strawweight bout between former champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Tecia Torres will go down at UFC on FOX 30, which takes place Saturday, July 28 at Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. ESPN initally broke the news of the fight. Jedrzejczyk (14-2) is 8-2 in the UFC and has lost two-straight fights to Rose Namajunas. I still consider Jedrzejczyk an amazing fighter but it remains to be seen how she rebounds to the Namajunas losses. Torres (10-2) is 6-2 in the UFC and is coming off of a decision loss to Jessica Andrade. This is a great fight between two excellent fighters but I’d still have to favor Jedrzejczyk. I don’t believe the losses to Namajunas show that she’s on a big decline like some others have made it seem like and I think she has the upper hand in this one, though I have a tremendous amount of respect for Torres as well.
