Five Props that Cashed Big at UFC 222

Five Props is a column featured on MMAOddsbreaker.com after every major MMA event that highlights the biggest underdog prop bets to cash out from that card. Here are five UFC 222 prop bets that cashed big based on the closing odds from across various sportsbooks.

1) Brian Ortega by Knockout (+1250)

In one of the more stunning visuals in modern mixed martial arts, Brian Ortega was the first fighter to ever finish Frankie Edgar. After an elbow that stunned Edgar, Ortega continued to push landing an uppercut that sent Edgar to the canvas. It was the biggest win of Ortega’s career and gave adventurous bettors a huge cash at +1250.

2) Alexander Hernandez by Knockout (+1075)

Not to be outdone, Alexander Hernandez had the most memorable UFC debut in years as he came out aggressive against top ten lightweight Beneil Dariush. Hernandez landed a punch flush on the button which sent Dariush crumbling to the mat. Hernandez was the biggest underdog winner on the card and perhaps will be in the division’s top 15 when the rankings come out next week. Hernandez by knockout paid a whopping +1075.

3) Andrei Arlovski by Decision (+425)

When two heavyweights get together, it typically doesn’t go the distance. However, Andrei Arlovski employed a grappling heavy approach taking down Stefan Struve throughout the fight and win a clear decision. Those that saw Arlovski winning a decision over the seven foot Struve, saw a cash of +425.

4) Mackenzie Dern by Decision (+300)

The highly-touted jiu-jitsu world champion made her UFC debut and certainly encountered some diversity in the bout. Dern was dropped by opponent Ashley Yoder in the second round and needed to win the third round to win the fight. It wasn’t until two minutes remained that Dern had a dominant position on the mat. Yoder was able to survive several submission attempts to make it go to the scorecards. Dern decision backers can thank Yoder’s defensive grappling abilities for the +300 decision winner.

5) Sean O’Malley by Decision (+210)

Decision backers of Sean O’Malley had to be confident heading into the third round. O’Malley was up by two rounds and five minutes away from a decision, however a kick attempt in the third round caused O’Malley all sorts of issues. It appeared that O’Malley had broken his foot and couldn’t put any weight on it. Instead of Soukhamthath forcing O’Malley into a standing exchange, he took the fight to the ground allowing O’Malley to survive until the final bell to get the victory. O’Malley decision bettors breathed a sigh of relief and earned a +210 winner.

A $100 parlay on these five props would have netted $1,032,549.
