MMA Odds and Ends for Friday: Brett Johns battles Aljamain Sterling

Johns vs Sterling at UFC Fight Night 128

Newsday reported yesterday that a bantamweight contest between top contenders Brett Johns and Aljamain Sterling has been booked for UFC Fight Night 128 on April 21st. Johns (15-0) is looking to pick up his first victory over a ranked fighter after defeating his first three opponents inside the Octagon. Sterling (14-3) most recently was on the receiving end of a brutal knockout courtesy of Marlon Moraes.

Sterling at one point was one of the most heavily hyped fighters in the division, but has now lost three times in the UFC. The odds for this fight should be close, and Johns could open as a slight favorite due to his unblemished record.

Karate Hottie takes on Cortney Casey

UFC on Fox 29 has added a women’s strawweight contest between a pair of top 115-pound women as AZCentral reported that Michelle Waterson will take on Cortney Casey on April 14th in Glendale. Casey (7-5) is based out of the MMA Lab in Arizona, while Waterson (14-6) also trains in the southwest at Jackson-Winklejohn in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Both Waterson and Casey are coming off decision losses to top contenders Tecia Torres and Felice Herrig, respectively. Look for Waterson to open as a favorite due to her popularity.
