Post-UFC Fight Night 113: On the Chopping Block

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) was back in Glasgow, Scotland for the second time in promotional history last Sunday (July 16, 2017) with UFC Fight Night 113: Nelson vs. Ponzinibbio. It was an exciting night of scraps that saw seven of 12 bouts end inside the distance. and with the action now in our rear view, let’s take a look at which of the evening’s competitors we may no longer see going to work inside the Octagon…

ON THE CHOPPING BLOCK

Paul Craig

“Bearjew” made an incredible UFC debut last December, when he submitted Henrique da Silva via armbar in the second round of their bout. Unfortunately, in his second Octagon outing, he suffered a first-round TKO loss against Tyson Pedro, marking the first official defeat of his professional mixed martial arts career. He followed that up with a first-round knockout at the hands of Khalil Rountree this past weekend, putting him on a two-fight skid in the big show and potentially in the unemployment line. At this point, I think it is 50/50 as to whether we see Craig back inside the Octagon or not. He did gain some fans with his debut performance, but it seems the bandwagon keeps getting lighter.

Bobby Nash

Nash has suffered back-to-back knockout losses in both of his UFC appearances now, and both losses occurred in come-from-behind fashion, as he would win the first round before going on to get finished in the second. He now stands a good chance of receiving a pink slip from the promotion. I think this is another case of 50/50.

Charlie Ward

Ward suffered a brutal slam knockout loss against Galore Bofando at UFC Fight Night 113, which marked his second consecutive first-round knockout defeat in the UFC, where he is now 0-2. Following two quick finishes, I think there is a decent chance that the promotion will opt to part ways with him. The only reason I could see them keeping him around is because of the Conor McGregor connection. For that reason, I would call this another case of 50/50.
